Education and Inspiration on Manufacturing Day at Action Bearing

On Friday, October 2nd, Action Bearing, a New England-based affiliate to Emerson Bearing, participated in Manufacturing Day 2015. The business-oriented holiday is one in which various industries across the nation welcome the public into their facilities in the hopes of creating an educational and interactive forum for both those involved in the industry, as well as the general public.

The overall objectives of Manufacturing Day are to address challenges within the manufacturing field, to create a space for which trends within the industry can be discussed, and to create savvier and more enlightened consumers.

Citing a desire to better educate consumers on the world of manufacturing and, more specifically, that of bearings, Action Bearing opened the doors of their facility to the general public from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on October 2nd. During the company’s open house, they provided visitors with information sessions and detailed presentations, as well as complimentary giveaways and snacks.

We also gave visitors a full presentation of our 25,000 square foot warehouse, as well as an additional presentation on the art of precision bearings from our bearing specialists. Material sustainability, management of load and speed and the effect of internal clearance upon bearing life were all points of discussion at the event.

In order to enlighten the public on the topic of bearings, we enlisted the support of a vendor from Nachi America, a top producer of bearings, who provided an in-depth presentation on the type of bearings his company produces. We also offered visitors examples of the varied processes to which their bearings may be applied, which may range from use in robotics to steel mills.

One Manufacturing Day participant noted just how insightful the experiencing was, stating that “it was neat to see a product that is used all the time but not often thought of by end-consumers.”

The event was not only educational for general consumers, however; we also invited and encouraged anyone interested in a career within the manufacturing field to learn more about their company and the industry as a whole.

Inviting questions and encouraging discussion of bearings and the way such an industry works as a whole, we provided a space in which those interested in getting involved in the field could learn more about bearing production and interact with those with detailed experience in the world of bearing manufacturing.
